Concrete Contractor in Battle Ground, WA

Concrete on acreage is a different animal than concrete in a subdivision, and the thing that separates them is load. A slab that only ever sees a car and a slab that sees a loaded truck, a tractor or a fifth wheel are not the same pour, even if they look identical the day they are finished.

Shop and outbuilding slabs are the most common acreage job and the one most often built too light. Thickness, edge detail and what goes underneath all get decided by what is going to sit on it and drive across it. If the building is ever going to be heated or finished inside, the vapor barrier goes in before the pour or it does not go in at all. None of that can be added later. It is a one-shot decision and it is worth ten minutes of conversation up front.

Long driveways are their own problem. On a couple hundred feet of approach you are managing drainage across the whole run, not just at the house, and the base has to be right the entire length because the weak spot is where it fails. Where a rural drive meets the county road there is usually a transition to deal with, and where it meets gravel there is an edge that will break down if it is not detailed. These are not hard, but they are the difference between a drive that holds up and one that spiders in five years.

RV and equipment pads get asked for constantly out here and they are the easiest thing to underbuild. The weight is concentrated on a few points and it sits in the same spot for months at a time. That is a thicker slab with more steel than a patio, and if it is poured like a patio you will see it in the first couple of seasons.

Down in the subdivisions it is patios, extensions and walkways, and the usual call is a slab that has settled at a downspout or left a lip at the door. Not all of those need a full tear-out. Sometimes a section comes out and the rest is sound. Concrete is unforgiving in a way carpentry is not, because everything that decides whether it lasts is buried before the truck shows up. That is why I am there for the prep and not just the pour.

Send me the dimensions, what is going to sit on it or drive across it, and a couple of photos of how a truck would reach the spot. I will come back with a layout and a straight read on what the job takes.

Concrete Work questions in Battle Ground

How much does an RV pad or shop slab cost in Battle Ground, WA?

Flatwork runs roughly $10 to $29 per square foot. RV pads and shop slabs sit at the upper half because they are poured thicker with more reinforcement than a patio. A long rural driveway lands lower per foot but adds up on length. Send me the dimensions and what will sit on it for a written number.

How thick should a slab be for an RV, a tractor or a lift?

Five to six inches with rebar, on a compacted base, instead of the four inches a patio gets. The weight sits on a few points for months at a time, and a slab poured like a patio shows it in the first couple of seasons.

Do you pour long driveways out on acreage?

Yes. On a couple hundred feet of approach the base has to be right the whole length and the drainage has to work across the whole run. Where it meets the county road or gravel there is a transition to detail so the edge does not break down.

Do you pour pole barn and outbuilding floors?

Yes. Pole barn floors, shop slabs and equipment pads. If the building will ever be heated or finished inside, the vapor barrier goes in before the pour, because it cannot be added after.

Do you also do patios and walkways in the Battle Ground subdivisions?

Yes. Patios, walkway extensions and replacing slabs that have settled at a downspout or the door. Not every one of those needs a full tear-out. Sometimes a section comes out and the rest is sound.
