Deck Builder in Ridgefield, WA
Decking contractor and deck builder working Ridgefield backyards, with deck building on new construction lots. Ridgefield has been the fastest growing city in Washington for most of the last decade, and that shows up in the backyards. A lot of people here moved into a brand new house and got handed a rectangle of bare dirt with it. The builder was never going to finish that part. That is the job.

The lots are the defining thing. New construction here has been going up on smaller and smaller parcels, so the backyard you are working with is often not much bigger than the deck you want in it. That sounds like a limitation and it mostly is, but it also means the layout matters more than it would on an acre. Where the stairs come down, how far the deck projects, which direction the boards run and what gets left as usable yard are decisions you want to make on paper first. On a small lot there is no room to fix a bad footprint after it is framed.
Setbacks are a live issue on these parcels in a way they are not in older neighborhoods. When the house already sits close to the line, a deck of the size you had in mind may not fit where you pictured it. That is much better to find out on a drawing than at a permit counter, and it is one of the reasons the first thing I do is draw it to scale before anybody talks about price.
The upside of a new house is that the structure behind the siding is current, consistent and predictable. The rim is where it is supposed to be, the framing is modern, and a ledger can usually be attached the way the code book draws it, which is not something you can count on in an older town. That makes the framing straightforward and moves the whole conversation onto layout and materials, which is where it should be.
The ten-year buildout also means the earliest of these yards are no longer new. Houses that went up around 2015 have had a decade of weather on whatever went in the backyard since, and some of that was built fast. If you are looking at something that is already tired, it is worth knowing whether the framing under it is sound before you price a full teardown. When you hire me you get me. I have been doing this thirty years, I am on the job every day, and I am the one accountable to you when something needs a decision. Electrical and plumbing go to licensed trades. The carpentry is mine.
Save yourself the wait
Send me the dimensions of the yard, where the house sits on the lot, and a couple of photos, and I will come back with a scaled sketch so you can see what actually fits before you spend anything. If it needs eyes on it I will come out.

Decks & Patios questions in Ridgefield
How much does a deck cost in Ridgefield, WA?
Size, height, decking material and railing drive it. On a new house the ledger attaches cleanly, so the money goes into layout and materials instead of repairs. Send me the yard dimensions and a photo for a written number, or run the free deck estimator on this site for a range.
Will a deck fit on my small Ridgefield lot?
That is the first thing I check. Setbacks bind hard on these parcels and the deck you pictured may not fit where you pictured it. I draw it to scale before anyone talks about price, so you find out on paper instead of at the permit counter.
Do you need HOA approval to build a deck in Ridgefield?
Many of the new developments have architectural rules on decks, railings and material. I ask for the HOA guidelines before the drawing is finalized, because they can decide the railing and the color.
Trex or cedar for a new construction backyard?
Both work. Composite like Trex or TimberTech costs more up front and needs no staining, and it is what most HOAs are used to approving. Cedar is less money and needs maintenance. I give real numbers for both.
Do you also do deck repair on the older Ridgefield subdivisions?
Yes. Yards from the 2015 builds have a decade of weather on them now, and some of what went in was built fast. If the framing is sound it is a re-deck. If not, it is a rebuild. I check before you price a teardown.
