Kitchen & Bathroom Remodeling in Woodland, WA

A lot of Woodland sits low and close to water, and most of the older housing is on a crawlspace over ground that stays damp a good part of the year. That shows up in bathrooms first and in floors generally, and it is the thing to understand before you pick finishes.

Woodland sits on a flood plain and a lot of the older housing has taken water at some point, which is a different problem than ordinary crawlspace damp. Water that came up and went back down leaves framing looking fine and the bottom of it soft, and it does not announce itself until a floor gets opened. Before I price finishes in a house down here I want to know whether the crawlspace has ever been under water, because that changes what we are likely to find at the toilet flange and along the tub, and it changes whether the joist under it is still doing its job. Anything that has gone punky gets cut out and replaced before tile goes down. That is not an upsell. New tile over a soft subfloor cracks inside a year.

The ground under the house keeps working on it long after the water is gone. A ground cover that has torn or was never there, blocked vents, or standing water that never fully drains will feed moisture up into whatever you just built and take a new bathroom back down over a few years. Handling that is unglamorous and it is cheap next to the remodel it protects, and on any job down here it is worth a look before finishes get picked.

The bath fan does the same damage from above when it is wrong. One that was never ducted anywhere, or that dumps into the attic instead of outside, puts every shower's worth of moisture back into the house. While the ceiling is open it costs almost nothing to run it correctly. After the ceiling closes it is a project again.

Kitchens run the usual range, from older places in town to newer construction, and the common request is opening the kitchen to the next room. Whether that wall carries load gets determined before demo, not during. Electrical and plumbing go to licensed trades. The carpentry, tile and running of the job are mine, and I am on the job every day.

Kitchen & Bath Remodeling questions in Woodland

How much does a bathroom remodel cost in Woodland, WA?

On the valley floor the floor under the bathroom is the wildcard. If the crawlspace has ever been under water, the subfloor and sometimes the joist at the toilet and tub need replacing, and that moves the number. I tell you what gets checked and the range up front. Send photos and dimensions for a written estimate.

My bathroom floor is soft. Can you fix it before tiling?

Yes, and I will not tile over it. New tile over a soft subfloor cracks inside a year. It gets cut out and replaced first.

Can you fix crawlspace moisture under my bathroom?

Yes. A torn or missing ground cover, blocked vents, or standing water feeds moisture into whatever you just built. Handling it is cheap next to the remodel it protects.

Do you convert tubs to walk-in showers in Woodland?

Yes. Drain moves, floor slopes, waterproofing goes in as a system under the tile.

Do you do kitchen remodels in Woodland?

Yes. Opening a kitchen to the next room, cabinets, counters and tile. Whether the wall is bearing gets determined before demo, not during.
