Patio Cover Builder in Longview, WA
Patio covers built onto Longview houses. Metal, shingled, clear-panel and pergola styles, tied into the house and set on footings that carry them. A cover turns a patio you use three months a year into one you use most of the year.

Longview gets enough rain that a patio without a cover sits empty from October to May. A cover changes that, but only if it is built as a structure and not as an afterthought. It carries snow load, it catches wind from underneath, and every connection from the ledger to the footing has to hold both.
The tie to the house is where these go wrong. A ledger bolted into a rim that was never meant to carry a roof, or flashed so water runs behind it into the wall, is how a cover ends up rotting the house it is attached to. On an older Longview house I find out what is behind the siding before I decide how the cover attaches.
Roof slope and drainage get decided on the drawing. Water has to come off the cover and go somewhere other than the patio or the foundation, so gutters and downspouts get planned with the frame.
Electrical for lights, a fan or a heater goes to a licensed electrician, and it gets roughed in while the frame is open. The carpentry is mine. Thirty years in the trade, on the job every day, and my shop is fifteen minutes south in Kalama.

Patio Covers questions in Longview
How much does a patio cover cost in Longview, WA?
Size, roof material and how it ties into the house decide it. A clear-panel cover over an existing slab is the simpler job. A shingled cover tied into the house roof with a finished ceiling is the high end. Send me the size and a photo of the back of the house for a written number.
Can you attach a patio cover to an older Longview house?
Usually. Most Longview houses went up between the 1920s and the 1950s, and the wall or eave a cover ties into has to be able to carry it. I look at what is there first. If the house cannot take the load, the cover gets its own beam and posts along the wall instead.
What roofing do you use on patio covers?
Metal, shingles to match the house, or clear polycarbonate panels when you want the light. Clear panels keep the rain off without darkening the windows behind the cover, which matters on the back of a lot of Longview houses.
Do I need a permit for a patio cover in Longview?
Usually, if it is attached to the house. The City of Longview permits inside city limits and Cowlitz County handles the rest. I pull it, and the drawing it needs is the one I build from.
Can you put a cover over my existing concrete patio?
Often. A patio slab is usually four inches and not poured to carry posts, so footings get cut in where the posts land. If the slab is cracked or sinking, it is worth replacing it at the same time, and I pour concrete too.
