On a whole house remodel out here the septic system decides more than people expect. A system is permitted for a certain number of bedrooms and a certain load. Adding a bathroom, or turning an unfinished basement into living space with a bedroom in it, can put you past what the drain field was designed for. That gets checked before anything is promised, because it is the difference between a project that goes forward and one that stops at the county.
Well water is the other rural question, and on a whole house job it touches every finish in the house. Iron and mineral content will stain new fixtures and mark up tile and glass in a way that looks like poor workmanship and is not. If that is your water, it is worth handling as part of the project rather than discovering it after every bathroom in the house is finished.
The layout work is the same as anywhere in older housing. Small closed rooms, and an ask to open the place up. Whether a wall is carrying load gets determined before demo rather than during it. If it is bearing, a header and posts take the load and the wall still comes out. It just costs what it costs, and you should hear that number before the work starts.
What is behind the walls is the other unknown. Older houses in town were wired for a light and a radio, and supply lines may be galvanized and closed up from the inside. None of that shows until a wall is open, which is why an honest bid says what gets checked and what the range is if it needs replacing.
Additions and shop conversions come up more here than down county because there is room for them. Finishing space that already has a roof over it is the cheapest square footage you will ever add. A true addition is everything new including the foundation, and on acreage the site work alone can be a real part of the number.
Electrical and plumbing go to licensed trades. Tile, framing, finish carpentry and the running of the job are mine. Thirty years, on the job every day, which matters most out here where the next trade is not ten minutes away.
Save yourself the wait
Send me photos of the rooms and rough dimensions, tell me what you want changed, and let me know if you are on a well or septic. I will come back with a layout and a straight read on what it takes.

Home Remodeling questions in Castle Rock
Can I finish my basement or add a bedroom on a septic system?
Depends on the system. It is permitted for a certain number of bedrooms, and a finished basement with a bedroom in it can push past what the drain field was designed for. That gets checked with the county before anything is promised.
How much does a whole house remodel cost in Castle Rock, WA?
In town it is bearing walls, original wiring and plumbing. On acreage it is also septic capacity and well water. Send photos and dimensions, tell me what you want changed and whether you are on a well or septic, and I will give you a layout and a range.
Do you convert shops and outbuildings into living space?
Yes. Finishing space that already has a roof is the cheapest square footage you will ever add. Insulation, moisture, electrical and a code-compliant exit are the work.
Do you build additions on rural property?
Yes. On acreage the site work alone can be a real part of the number, and an addition has to tie into the existing house and roof.
Do you remodel houses in Toutle, Silver Lake and Vader?
Yes. Castle Rock, Toutle, Silver Lake and the rural properties north of Longview are regular service area, and being on the job every day matters out here where the next trade is not ten minutes away.
