Siding Contractor in Woodland, WA

Siding contractor working Woodland and the Lewis River valley. A lot of this town sits low on a flood plain, and that changes what we are likely to find when the old siding comes off.

Woodland sits on a flood plain and a good share of the older housing has taken water at some point. That is a different problem than ordinary damp. Water that came up and went back down leaves framing looking fine and the bottom of it soft, and it does not announce itself until a wall gets opened. Before I price a re-side down here I want to know the history of the house, because it changes what we expect to find at the base of the walls.

The ground keeps working on a house long after the water is gone. Ground that stays saturated into the spring feeds moisture up into a wall from below, and a wall that never fully dries out fails from the inside while looking fine from the street. Anything that has gone punky gets cut out and replaced before new material goes on. Covering it is how you pay for the job twice.

What keeps water out of your house is not the siding. Siding is the first line and water gets past it eventually on every wall ever built. The weather barrier underneath is what protects the structure, and on older houses here it is often torn felt or nothing at all.

We use WeatherSmart house wrap and install it the way the manufacturer requires, because their representative trained us on it directly. He also comes out and checks the wrap on each job before any siding goes on. Once the siding is up nobody can inspect what is behind it, so that visit is the only chance anyone gets to confirm the wall was built right. Properly installed wrap carries its own warranty separate from the siding warranty over it.

Over the wrap we install James Hardie fiber cement lap. On a house that sits in a damp valley, a material that does not rot and holds paint through wet winters is worth what it costs over wood.

East of town the ground climbs and the houses are drier, which usually means a straighter job with fewer surprises behind the wall. Either way it gets looked at rather than assumed. When you hire me you get me. Thirty years, on the job every day, and I am the one accountable to you when the wall opens up.

Siding questions in Woodland

Can you re-side a house that has flooded in Woodland?

Yes, and the history of the house is the first thing I want to know. Water that came up leaves framing soft at the bottom, and that gets cut out and replaced while the wall is open rather than covered back up.

How much does siding replacement cost in Woodland, WA?

Wall square footage, trim and openings, and what turns up behind the old siding. Send photos of each elevation, a rough size, and whether the house has ever taken water for a written number.

What siding is best for a damp valley house?

James Hardie fiber cement lap. It does not rot and holds paint through wet winters, which is worth what it costs over wood on a house that sits damp half the year.

Do you install house wrap?

Yes. WeatherSmart wrap installed to spec and inspected by the manufacturer rep before any siding goes on. That is the layer that actually protects the structure.

Do you do siding repair, or only full replacement?

Both. A rotted bottom course, a section under a bad gutter, or one weather side are regular jobs.
