Karpinski Family Home Renovation
Kelso, Wa, WA
This home was wrapped in old shake siding that had reached the end of its life. The homeowners wanted a clean, durable exterior that would hold up for decades and finally put the maintenance headaches behind them. We took the house all the way back to the studs-out sheathing, corrected what needed correcting, and rebuilt the exterior in James Hardie fiber cement — a siding built to outlast the weather, not fight it every few years.
Before
Every course of the old shake siding came off, exposing the wall sheathing underneath. With the walls open, we inspected the structure and corrected what the old siding had been hiding, getting the house to a clean, sound starting point before a single new board went up.
After
The entire house was wrapped in new house wrap — a proper weather barrier behind the siding to keep moisture out and the structure dry for the long haul. From there we installed James Hardie fiber cement siding with full trim detail throughout: crisp corners and clean lines around every window and door. We also cut in a new exterior door off the bedroom, framing and flashing a brand-new backyard access point that wasn’t there before. What started as a tired, shake-sided house is now a clean, modern, weather-tight home — new siding, new trim, new weather barrier, a brand-new bedroom door to the backyard, and a fresh coat of paint head to toe. This is the kind of exterior that protects a home for the next thirty years, not the next three
