Riley Scattergood claudia Project
Longview, WA
A trusted contractor has been brought on to bring renewed comfort, safety, and polish to several key areas of this home. The work spans a bedroom, two bathrooms, and a back door entry — each space receiving thoughtful repairs and quality finish work tailored to the homeowner's needs. This project is just getting underway, and the team is ready to deliver craftsmanship that lasts.
Scope of Work
James Hurula Construction will begin by protecting the work area, hallway, and adjacent finished floors with drop cloths and setting up dust containment at the bathroom doorway to help control debris during demolition. The toilet will be shut off, pulled, and set aside for reinstallation. Existing tile flooring, thinset, and underlayment will be removed from the full bathroom floor area of approximately 35 square feet, exposing the subfloor so the water-damaged areas can be properly evaluated and repaired.
Once the floor is opened up, the rotted subfloor in the tub area will be cut back to sound wood and solid bearing. New blocking will be installed between the joists at the cut lines, and new 3/4" CDX plywood will be glued and screwed in place so it is flush with the remaining existing subfloor. The remaining subfloor and the bottom plate along the tub wall will be inspected, and exposed framing will be treated as part of the repair process before the new finished floor assembly is installed.
The existing pocket door, track, and hardware will be removed. The rotted lower portion of the pocket door framing, split jamb, and bottom plate at the opening will be cut out as needed. New framing will be sistered to the pocket studs, and the bottom of the pocket will be rebuilt back to sound wood. A new 30" pocket door frame kit will be installed in the existing 61-1/2" rough opening, plumbed, squared, and securely fastened, including new track and rollers. A new 30" x 80" hollow-core door will be hung on the new track with pulls, edge latch, and guides, then adjusted so it slides and closes smoothly.
After the structural and door repairs are complete, new 1/4" plywood underlayment will be installed over the full bathroom floor, fastened per flooring requirements, with seams filled and sanded flush. New LVP flooring will be installed over the approximately 35 square foot bathroom floor area, including a transition strip at the hall doorway. The toilet will be reset on a new wax ring, and the closet flange will be replaced or spaced as needed to meet the new finished floor height.
Finish work will include installing new jamb and casing on both sides of the pocket door opening, installing new baseboard around the bathroom floor, and caulking the trim so it is ready for paint. At completion, all tile, rotted wood, old door and frame components, packaging, and debris from this scope will be cleaned up and hauled away, leaving the bathroom ready for final owner painting or any additional work outside this estimate.

Additional Work
With the project scope expanded, James Hurula Construction will be taking on a thorough bathroom renovation that goes well beyond cosmetic updates — addressing the real issues hiding beneath the surface. The team will carefully protect the surrounding home during demolition, then remove the existing tile floor to properly assess and repair water-damaged subfloor framing, rebuild a deteriorated pocket door frame and install a brand-new door that slides and closes with ease, and finish with new LVP flooring, trim, casing, baseboard, and a freshly reset toilet. Every detail of this scope — from structural repairs to the final caulk line — reflects the team's commitment to doing the work right, leaving the bathroom solid, clean, and truly ready for whatever comes next.
