DENELLE BUCK Project

Kalama, WA

James Hurula Construction is getting started on a meaningful refresh of both the front and back entry areas of this home. The project involves removing the existing front porch ramp-style deck and back steps, then rebuilding both areas with quality materials and solid craftsmanship. The result will be a front porch deck and rear stairway that are safe, attractive, and built to last.

Scope of Work

SELECTED OPTION: Elite Wood 4' x 8'

James Hurula Construction will remove the existing front porch ramp-style deck, including the existing railings, and remove the existing back steps, including the existing railings. Demolished material will be loaded and hauled off from the project site. Work areas will be prepared for reconstruction, including layout of the new front porch framing footprint, locating the new post pad positions, and preparing the back step area for the new stair installation.

At the front porch, six new concrete post pads will be dug, formed as needed, poured, and prepared to receive the new deck post supports. New 4x4 posts will be installed on the pads using post bases and anchors, and 4x6 pressure-treated beams will be installed on the posts with proper post-to-beam brackets. The new ramp-style deck structure will be built approximately 4 feet wide by 8 feet long using 2x6 pressure-treated framing, with framing installed to provide a solid base for the new walking surface.

The front porch deck surface will be finished with Elite wood decking. New railing posts will be bolted to the 2x6 pressure-treated framing, and railings will be built using Elite wood 2x4 rails between posts, a 2x6 top cap, and 2x2 pickets. Railing layout will be installed in a clean, consistent manner to provide a finished appearance and practical use for the front porch access area.

At the back entry, new steps will be constructed with five steps at approximately 4 feet wide. Stair horses will be cut from 2x12 material and installed to support Elite wood treads. Railings will be installed on both sides of the steps using 4x4 posts, Elite wood 2x4 rails, 2x6 top caps, and 2x2 pickets to match the front porch railing style.

Upon completion, James Hurula Construction will perform a final check of the new deck, steps, post connections, railing components, and general workmanship. The work area will be cleaned of construction debris, scrap material will be collected, and demolished material included in the scope will be hauled off. The completed project will be left ready for normal use, subject to any recommended cure time for concrete post pads.
