Krista Kokko Project

deck construction in Longview, WA

James Hurula Construction brought a new outdoor living space to life with the construction of a ground-level deck just outside the home's sliding glass door. The project called for a ledger-mounted deck measuring approximately 10 by 18 feet, thoughtfully designed so the finished surface sits flush below the door threshold for a seamless and safe transition. The team handled every stage with care, setting a strong foundation from the very start.

Scope of Work

James Hurula Construction will manage the full removal and replacement of your concrete driveway approach. We begin by securing the necessary right-of-way permit from the City of Longview and coordinating with the City Engineer's office to ensure full compliance with municipal standards. Our team will perform a professional saw cut and full-depth demolition of the existing concrete, utilizing industrial equipment to break out and haul away all debris to an approved disposal facility, leaving your property clean and ready for reconstruction.

Following demolition, we will excavate the area to the required depth and prepare a stable subgrade, furnishing and compacting high-quality crushed surfacing base course to meet structural requirements. We will then install precision forms to establish the proper cross-slope and a compliant maximum 1" lip at the gutter transition, ensuring all expansion and contraction joints are placed according to City specifications for long-term durability.

We will pour and finish your new approach using Class 4000 air-entrained concrete at an 8" minimum thickness. Our finishing process includes professional troweling, broom texturing for safety, and careful edging. We maintain strict quality control during the curing process, protecting the surface until it achieves the required 3500 psi strength, and perform a final site cleanup to remove all remaining forms and incidental debris.

Before

These early images captured the site as it looked before James Hurula Construction began transforming the space. The sliding glass door location and surrounding siding gave way to a carefully prepared, properly detailed deck connection built to last.
