Robert smith Project
residential in Kelso, WA
James Hurula Construction is getting to work on a sidewalk replacement project at a residential property in Kelso, bringing fresh, properly finished concrete to the front of the home. The existing sidewalk section had reached the end of its useful life, and the homeowner needed a contractor who could handle not just the physical work but also the permitting process that comes with construction in the city right-of-way. James Hurula Construction is managing the full scope from permit application through final city inspection, making the process straightforward for the owner.
Scope of Work
James Hurula Construction will perform the sidewalk demolition and replacement in front of the home in Kelso for an approximate area of 54 feet by 5 feet. Because this work is located in the city right-of-way, the Contractor will apply for and obtain the required City of Kelso right-of-way permit on the Owner's behalf and will schedule and coordinate the required city inspections. Contractor time for permit coordination and inspection scheduling is included in the estimate price; city permit and inspection fees are not included and will be invoiced to the Owner at cost when issued.
Work will begin with site preparation, layout, and protection of the work area. The existing sidewalk will be saw cut at the two end joints where the remaining sidewalk is to stay in place. The approximately 54-foot by 5-foot section of existing sidewalk will then be broken out, removed, loaded, hauled off, and disposed of, including normal concrete debris generated by the demolition.
After demolition is complete, the subgrade will be graded and prepared for the new sidewalk. A gravel base will be placed and compacted to the bottom of the form boards to provide a stable base for the replacement concrete. Forms will be set to city line and grade using 2x4 form material, with the new sidewalk sloped to drain toward the street as required for proper drainage and right-of-way construction.
The new sidewalk will be poured at approximately 4 inches thick. Because the forms are 2x4 material measuring approximately 3-1/2 inches and the gravel base is compacted to the bottom of the forms, the final slab thickness may vary from approximately 3-1/2 inches to 4-1/2 inches depending on grade conditions. The concrete will be placed, screeded, edged, broom finished, and tooled with control joints to match the existing sidewalk pattern as closely as practical. The finished surface will be cured in a standard manner suitable for exterior sidewalk concrete.
Upon completion, forms will be stripped, edges will be backfilled, and the work area will be cleaned. The Contractor will remove remaining construction debris from the site and complete final coordination for required city inspection close-out related to the described scope.
As the project moves forward, James Hurula Construction will leave the site clean, the edges properly backfilled, and a durable new sidewalk ready for years of use.
